Comment:
Talk about *severely* underappreciated... poor Emitt was more or less unknown to just about everyone until "Lullabye" appeared in The Royal Tenenbaums a couple of months ago. And a real shame it is, too, as he wrote some of the most shimmeringly lovely pop songs of the late '60s/early '70s. Bouts with depression (see a recent issue of The Big Takeover) and trouble with his record label have kept him from recording for the past twenty-five (or more) years, but there's always hope that Hawthorne, California's *other* resident genius (that's next to the Wilsons and the McDonalds, for those of you who are wondering) will rise above his troubles and grace us with some McCartney-esque tunes once again. Requested by Brandt (who should phone home soon) months ago and inspired by my exchange with buglady yesterday.Feedback:
It's about friggin' time. Severely underappreciated indeed! What a great artist.
I was going to do this idea, but yours is way better! My title was True Love Travels On A Gravel Rhodes.
Swell mix. Mirror is one of my fave McCartney-esque albums of the 70's. One of the great underappreciated buried treasures.
Wow-- you weren't kidding. This is truly staggering. Yes, it is a definite must-have. Missing you still gives me chills.
Hey Rob, you might have to add this to my pile -- an artist I have heard of but never heard. And yes, someone needs to rattle Brandt Fundak's cage and get him back here. We miss him!
I second Ion's remarks - don't know a lot about this band but would love too. And what did happen to mr. Brandt?
i think 'live' is one of the best songs to come out of 1967 -- but there were a LOT of them that year. tell me what kind of stuff you'd like on a tape -- i'm all ready for you now! :) i'd love to do a sixties tape for you but i'm open to suggestions
I had never heard of Emitt, but asked Rob for this anyway, and it is really lovely. I don't know how else to describe this music. Definitely underappreciated, as obviously too many people have not heard of him.
how can i hear this guy without buying his album first? im kind of broke
I've been listening to this mix quite a bit lately. Thanks again for familiarizing me with this extraordinary talent. It was sad reading about his recent struggles with depression in the Big Takeover magazine. Did you know that Revola is officially releasing the Merry-Go-Round on CD later this month? I'm all over it when it comes out.
