Comment:

Mose Allison is the ultimate hipster: his laconic yet never lazy delivery as smooth as a sunny summer afternoon breeze, his songs wry and sardonic set pieces filled with just the right amount of irony and wit, the music surrounding them uncluttered and casual. Born in 1927 in the deep south of Tippo, Mississippi. Mose followed his ears and felt the blues and jazz in the air. In 1956, Mose migrated up to NYC where the jazz scene was happening and he developed a loyal following. His music caught the ears of 1960's England, where the likes of The Yardbirds, The Who, Van Morrison, John Mayall and others began covering his tunes. His songs continue to be covered by the likes of Elvis Costello and The Clash. Mose was a lyrical social critic before Dylan, he was satirical long before Newman and he was rude before Jagger and Richards , yet he has never been a superstar. Mose answer "Just lucky I guess". His smooth piano style, his dry delivery and lyrics like "You're molecular structure is really something swell, a high frequency modulated jezebel. Thermodynamically, you're getting to me"... what's not to like.

Very cool choice for the Vol. II kick-off. Did you happen to catch Mose in "The Score", with DeNiro & Ed Norton? He makes a cameo in the Jazz club that DeNiro's character owns (along with Cassandra Wilson).

The return of the Encyclopedia! Very nice. CDs this time. Hmmm. All 26 would fit nicely with covers into a CD wallet. Then it would really look like an encyclopedia. Cheers to v.2.0 :-)

Yeah, this looks great, Tom. Add this to my pile, if you will. Your stuff should be in the mail by the end of the week.
