Comment:
Vol. II, with the same reasoning (and mixed at the same time) as Vol. I. The Reunion track is the third single that I ever purchased (unless it beat out Helen Reddy's "Angie Baby" as the second). Carl Douglas, by the way, has nothing on Sean when it comes to crooning his campy tale of Asian combat; I have the tapes to prove it. ;-)Feedback:
Joe Tex, Commander Cody, Bill Withers, Rufus ... were we listening to the same transister radio? I'll be needin' these.
All the choruses to these songs are ringing in my head as I scan down the tracklist, which either means I'm old or I watch too many late night infomercials. I remember the Night Chicago Died used to scare me as a kid. The whole SLA thing was going on at the time, and I thought the United States was going to be taken over by gun totin' chicks. The Night That the Lights Went Out in Georgia also used to give me chills. Mental images of dead people lying in pools of blood was too much for the boy. On a more pleasent note, I think Come And Get You Love was my first favorite song. I still remember how disappointed I was when my mom bought me a record by Redbone -- Leon Redbone. One day I might forgive her.
Nice selections from that Rhino series. Next, how about a mix culled from Soul Hits of the 70's/Didn't It Blow Your Mind! I was eight or nine when most of this came out. I'd lie awake nights with my bright yellow Panasonic ball radio shoved next to my head! Luckily, a year later a friend played me Meet The Beatles. I haven't been the same since.
These all bring back memories to me too, some good, some bad.
I've had VERY long conversations with various people over the meaning of "Angie Baby". BTW, Rob, 2:17 will be in the mail to you tomorrow--sorry for the delay.
Nice job--I think volume II is even better than volume I.
Kung Fu Fighting...... I think you know that holds a special place in my heart. I have a copy of that lp around here somewhere: Kung Fu FIghting and other love songs, I believe it was called. Thanks to Tarentino, I'll never listen to that Stealer's Wheel tune again. Let the swappage begin.
Geez, it's getting ugly in here.... must be that damned Stealer's Wheel song. By the way, I used to LOVE "Sky High", but now it seems sorta, well, "Afternoon Delight"-ish. More cheezy than pleasey. Hey Rob, did you ever see Bill "Kung Fu" Leet break a brick during those inspired performances of KFF at the Banana? That song was never the same for me again - he brokw his hand once during it.
aaah, the Electric Banana .... memories of Car Sickness and the Bean Team ... sorry folks, this is turning into an early eighties Pittsburgh chat room
That Andy Kim song always kills me. And the Stealer's Wheel tune is a great one (so there.) We need to work out a trade sometime....
