80 minutes of what is close to being my absolute favorite music (sub-)genre, compiled upon request of fellow AotM'er George Jetson (sorry it took so long). Not many revolutionary picks here, but then again, this is designed as a mod primer for Mr. Jetson. As a result, we went heavy on the "anthemic", and I finished the disc off with what are probably the two most definitive "mod" songs (with the possible exception of "My Generation", of course). We had debated intially about whether to include the authentic '60s soul music that most mods were into, but Sean successfully argued that old-school soul would only clutter up the British vibe that we were going for. I decided to include a couple of more "beat"-oriented tracks ("Boom Boom", "Midnight to Six Man") to give Mr. Jetson an idea of where this music came from, then included a couple of more "psych"-ey tracks ("My Mind's Eye", "I Can Hear the Grass Grow", "Groovy") to provide an inkling of what the music became in short order. (With that in mind, a British '60s psych pop collaboration comp will probably follow sometime in the next couple of months.) Sean also suggested a couple of more stylized pop tunes (Lulu, Unit 4 + 2), which I included with historical perspective in mind. And yes, I understand that not every band here was a favorite of hardcore mods. Here are a few (easy) trivia questions to keep the armchair rock geeks on the site entertained... 1) Who is Davy Jones? 2) What decadent rock legend got his professional start in the Birds? 3) What's the connection between the High Numbers and Les Fleurs de Lys? 4) Who is the backing band on the P.
