Comment:
Been a while since I made a mix, let alone submitted one . . . Shimmy-Disc was my favorite indie record label in the late eighties and early nineties. I didn't like everything that they put out, but it was always worth a listen. Although it's probably best known for Bongwater and the early (i.e. good) King Missile releases, the label was also the first to release Japanese noisecore in the U.S., and was diverse enough to also sign Daniel Johnston for several records. Not all of the songs on this tape are on Shimmy-Disc recordings, but all of the artists have recorded on Shimmy-Disc at one time or another. Plus, they have the distinction of being the label that inflicted GWAR upon the world. How can you be any cooler than that?Feedback:
Wow--King Missile's "Cheesecake Truck" AND "Mr. Johnson"! Two of my favorites (although I think "Mr. Johnson" is the only KM album track not written by a band member; it was by NYC singer/songwriter Dave Keener). And Paleface, too. I love that Polydor debut CD of his!
