Comment:

OK, I'm looking for feedback here. I'm debating whether to pair some of the songs down and squeeze it onto one CD, or expand it to 2cd's. Any comments on song selection, or sequencing? I'm trying to represent a good "history" of punk without dipping to far back (Dictators, Stooges, MC5) or to the more recent stuff. Are there any "crucial" songs I've missed? Or any songs that should be thrown out? I'm interested to hear what other people think. Thanks in advance

a good start, but i recommend picking only one song from each band so that you can fit in more bands. perhaps some descendents, op ivy, slits...

You're off to a great start. I agree with Pam's suggestion about sticking to one song per band. Other possibilities? The Adverts, P.I.L., Gang of Four...You might try putting it in chronological order, but that would take quite a bit of research.

Where is The Clash? a great punk band that spanned the decades...AND DIDN'T SUCK! cause okay. we all love 'em, but the sex pistols really did suck. they couldn't play their instruments. but they made punk what it is and are major contributors to the movement. and will never be forgotten by any means...but let's not forget the clash!

What range of years are you shooting for? Final Solution dates from '75. Even earlier if you count RFTT versions. Seeing that the term "Punk" was allegedly coined by John Holstrom do describe Go Girl Crazy, you really need some Dictators. What about the rest of the CBGBs crowd? Despite how their looked at today, Patti Smith, Suicide & Television (hell, even Blondie & Talking Heads to some degree) were considered punk back in the day.

as far as the damned go, i would recommend using "New Rose" instead of "Neat Neat Neat". "New Rose" was, after all, arguably the first punk single released in Britian.
