Roots & Influences - The World of Madonna
Comment:
Like a very busy bee moving from flower to flower, Madonna cross-pollinated styles to suit her abilities and her ever-changing image, as you’re about to hear. From the jewel-sporting platinum blondage of Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” to Nancy Sinatra’s thigh-high empowerment in “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” and beyond, Madonna has always scanned the radar for the first faint signals of tomorrow’s sounds. An early champion of freestyle/electro beatmeister/producer Man Parrish, she also employed hip-hop architect/Zulu Nation leader Afrika Bambaataa’s producers Shep Pettibone and Arthur Baker to assist her groove-making. In recent years, as Madonna has spent more time in Europe, she’s uncovered the sonic sorcery of new-school French electronic outfits Air and Daft Punk.
