You’d think hi-NRG dance deity Shannon and U2 are about as far removed as two artists could possibly be. But all musical roads seem to lead to (or [i]through[/i]) Madonna, whose ever-evolving musical fashion sense is as far-reaching as her ambition. The Go-Go’s’ “We Got the Beat” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” for instance, mirror the extroverted and introspective sides of the Material Girl’s new wave phase. Björk’s #1 dance hit, “Big Time Sensuality,” came on the heels of co-writing the [i]Bedtime Stories[/i]’ title track. And Jody Watley’s “Don’t You Want Me” is a picture-perfect snapshot of the sugar-and-spice pop-tart sound that propelled Madonna to superstardom.
