John Rich was an angel-voiced former member of the country outfit Lonestar. "Big" Kenny Alphin was a gravel-throated songwriter who liked to stretch out and dabble in country, rock, and pop. 'Round about '98, the two began getting together with their musical buds in a Nashville dive to kick around ideas and show off to one another, and the Muzik Mafia was born. By the time the first official Big & Rich single ("Wild West Show") took a bow four years later, the pair were already deep into their own bag, tumblin' together all the sounds they like best and winding up with party tunes like "Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich)" that took the country world, and the crossover charts, by storm.
