Kings of Leon
Comment:
Kings of Leon may have stormed up from the South as the next generation of back-to-basics rock ’n’ roll heroes on the appropriately titled Youth and Young Manhood, but like so many great young bands, they grew up fast and in public, expanding their sound right in front of our ears. By the time they reached 2009’s game-changing Only By the Night, they were turning out sonic surprises like “Revelry,” where trash-can trip-hop beats tumble under a country-tinged power ballad, and “I Want You,” a sexy, syncopated strut that maximizes a minimalist frame in which cowbell practically plays the lead and guitar is almost an afterthought. Lately, the Kings have even revisited — and revised — their youthful abandon, with a hip-shaking Mark Ronson remix of their early garage stomper “Pistol of Fire.”
