Comment:

No question, Mrs. Garth Brooks benefited from hitching her star to his, first as backup singer, then as opening act (while both were married to others). But Trisha Yearwood has a thoroughbred lurking inside her, and you can hear it straining against the gates of her more reflective songs, yearning to run free. She seemed always destined for stardom, and while the Brooks connection unlocked some doors, she's the cyclone that blew through. From her auspicious launch — as the first-ever country female to have a platinum debut — through a decade-and-a-half's worth of hit records, Yearwood has proven herself to be the sort of performer who inhabits songs, rather than just sings them…and her fans know the difference.
