Country Rock - School of Rock: Classic Rock, Vol. 2
Comment:
The tear-in-beer croon of country and the hard-driving wallop of rock were destined for union like words and music, but in the '70s it achieved perfect yin-yang proportions. Nudie suit-bedecked Gram Parsons looked every bit the godfather of country rock, and his breezily ironic "Ooh Las Vegas," with its pedal steel careening over a boogie shuffle beat, defined the sound he'd sought since leaving the Byrds. Folk-rock pioneer Bob Dylan once again found himself on the cusp of the new, blazing a trail from Greenwich Village to Music Row on his wistfully tender "Lay Lady Lay." But on "Lyin' Eyes," the Eagles — with seamless harmonies soaring above their 12-string's ching-a-ching — perfected the sound’s magic recipe and rode it all the way to the GRAMMY® Award for Record of the Year. But don't stop exploring there; artists from the Dead to the Band all helped forge the link between city and country.
