The Coasters' cover of the James Hanley standard, "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" — the flip to their mega-smash "Yakety Yak" — is alleged to be writer-producers Leiber & Stoller's favorite doo-wop disc of all time, because, said Jerry Leiber, it "sounds the least like a doo-wop record!" The beach music scene continues to thrive, as evidenced by the British blue-eyed soul sensation just barely out of her teens, Joss Stone, whose "Girl They Won't Believe It" has already become part of the repertoire. And we leave our summertime coastal compilation with Twist of Fate's sentimental "I Love Beach Music," a gently loping tune that manages to celebrate — and name-check — such genre faves as "Sixty Minute Man," "Walkin' Up a One Way Street," "Under the Boardwalk," and others.
