"Hanging by a Moment" was more than just another hit single in the summer of 2001; it was [i]the[/i] hit single of the year, a masterwork of hummable modern rock melodies that topped [i]Billboard[/i]'s Hot 100 chart just above Janet Jackson and Alicia Keys. It was by no means the end of the Malibu, CA, band's career, either; if anything, it was merely a preview of the pop perfection to come in latter-day cuts like the candlelit, string-steeped ballad "Good Enough" and the frantic, chord-bending "First Time." And then there's "You and Me," the smash song that's been featured in enough cheek-to-cheek wedding dances to justify an actual "Extended Wedding Version."
