Elvis Rocks! - World of Elvis Presley
Comment:
Elvis wasn’t the first country cousin to blend hillbilly moonshine with a double-shot of blues power, but his white lightning concoction exploded. Dangerous as a switchblade in the hands of an escaped con, “Baby, Let’s Play House” manages to roll sex, violence, and class warfare into a two-minute rockabilly roller-coaster ride, as Elvis’ voice hiccups and skips with the jittery impatience of a juvenile delinquent who won’t be derailed from his dream date with sin. Elvis dials back the hormone surge in his bump-and-grind ballad “One Night,” gallantly turning from pressure to plea to make his dreams come true. And “Burning Love” introduced America to the “hunka hunka burning love,” as a gospel choir and ex-Cricket Glen Hardin’s hard-pumpin’ boogie-woogie piano launches Presley into falsetto-wailin’ overdrive. Don’t stop there, though — as Elvis promised, there’s good rockin’ tonight; and we’ve got it all right here.
