Comment:

Having trouble getting to sleep, perchance to dream? We bring you time-honored tunes to snooze by with our Classical Lullabies Essentials, a wealth of aural Ambien to bring on the heavy lids — or, for those who would rather remain conscious, some peaceful sounds by which to simply chill. It all begins with the most beloved of classical cradle songs, "Wiegenlied, Op. 49, No. 4" — better known as "Brahms's Lullaby," and given a gorgeous performance here by Anne Sofie von Otter & Bengt Forsberg. From there, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Charles Munch float you through the lush quiet of "I. Pavan of the Sleeping Beauty" from Maurice Ravel's Mother Goose Suite and Alexander Baillie & Andrew Ball bring a contemporary twist to the nocturne with "Sleep On: I. Berceuse" by British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage. Sweet dreams never sounded so good.
