Comment:

Oh to be a club kid in the early '80s, a free-wheeling time of discovery where many nighttime spots could get away with playing punk, hip-hop, new-wave, and electro. About that last record store section, it began with the Kraftwerk-quoting work of Afrika Bambaataa and went on to stimulate the outer reaches of rap, techno, and rock. In many ways, the brief late-'90s explosion of electro-clash (Chromeo, Fannypack) was the second coming of electro's boundless early-'80s birth — complete with DJs suddenly dropping New Order and Cybotron 12-inches — but now that it's come and gone, we're perfectly content getting our robo-funk on at home with such electro godfathers as Mantronix and more recent revivalists like Anthony Rother.
