Comment:

One of the most thrilling things about the '70s is how much it set the stage for every decade since. On the punk side, the New York Dolls smeared traces of glam-rock lipstick across the raw power of the Stooges, the Damned debuted with "New Rose" (featuring a smash-and-bash Beatles cover on the B-side), and the Buzzcocks predicted pop-punk with "What Do I Get?" As for the heavier side of hard rock, it was already shifting from the bludgeoning blues of Led Zeppelin to the fist-pounding theatrics of Motörhead's need-for-speed take on the new wave of British heavy metal ("Ace of Spades").
