This edition of La Lista takes a look at the role of the beloved canine in Latin music. It doesn't take a psychology major to tell you that most of these tracks go beyond talking about the love of a pet – instead, they touch on a long history of mythologizing the dog. The tone here takes us back to a time long before we invested money in hotels for our pets, back when we were mystified by, afraid of, and occasionally felt a kinship with these animals. The bravado-heavy hip-hop of Akwid's "Como Perros" gets strength from the feeling of pack-like brotherhood –a completely different feeling than the sadness that pours from traditional Mexican singer Chelo Silva's "Como Un Perro." It's a wide collection of tunes, with not one version of "Who Let the Dogs Out?" to be found.
