Hell hath no fury like an R&B singer scorned. At least in the case of Keyshia Cole, who busted out of the Bay Area as soon as she caught wind of a cheating boyfriend. While Cole collaborated with MC Hammer when she was 12, she spent the better part of a decade sharpening her street-seasoned lyrics and soaring soprano vocals without a record contract. At least until she moved to L.A., where A&M Records snagged the singer for [i]The Way It Is[/i] alongside high-profile guests like Kanye West (the fidgety beats of "I Changed My Mind," featuring the then-unknown vocals of John Legend), Daron Jones of 112 (the smooth but toxic "I Should Have Cheated"), and Eve (the funky, sun-baked stroll of "Never").
