Finland has built its economic prosperity on manufacturing and I.T., but one of the country’s finest exports is — in our humble estimation — the theatrical goth metal of H.I.M. (His Infernal Majesty). Despite the demonic moniker, there’s nothing especially scary about the band, whose handsomely brooding singer-songwriter Ville Valo designed the “heartagram” (a pentagram/heart hybrid symbol) that serves as their logo. Towering singles like 2003’s “The Funeral of Hearts” (the first track to make a serious impression in the U.K.) and splendid covers — including Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” — illuminate this regal introduction to the excellency of H.I.M.
