Dropkick Murphys
Comment:
So, you're not from Boston or Irish, but still want to understand what makes Dropkick Murphys the most essential shamrock punk-folk band since the Pogues? Take one listen to "Worker's Song" and you'll understand. Lyrically speaking, it's bursting at the seams with the blue-collar spirit that turns most Dropkick Murphys shows into a pint-spilling scream. And on a musical tip, it crams their defining characteristics into three minutes, from churning guitars to raspy vocals that'll remind you of similar new-school punk acts like Against Me! (sans bagpipes, mind you.) Don't let that make you think they're one-dimensional, though. The rest of our Deep Cuts reveals many other sides to the Dropkick Murphys' sound, including the clapping and acoustic strumming of "Boys on the Docks," the bagpipe squeals of "Last Letter Home," and the endearingly sloppy cover songs "Fortunate Son" and "The Kids Are Alright."
