Shooter Jennings
Comment:
Family friend Willie Nelson famously advised mothers not to let their babies grow up to be cowboys. But we're sure he would have given Jessi Colter a pass, especially when her baby grew up to be Waylon Albright "Shooter" Jennings. Carrying on the "outlaw" country tradition started by his parents, Jennings isn't afraid to stomp a muddy boot into rock territory, as demonstrated by his honky-tonked-up version of Dire Straits' "Walk of Life." But it's closer to home that the spark roars into an inferno; paired with legendary country bad boy George Jones on "4th of July," Jennings raises a little hard-drivin' rebel hell. And on outlaw classics like Kris Kristofferson's "The Silver Tongued Devil & I" or the live cover of his daddy's "Lonesome, On'Ry & Mean," Shooter not only claims his inheritance, but also stakes out territory for another wave of country desperados who live by their own code.
