Angie Stone
Comment:
Hard to believe that's Angie Stone passing the mic in the certified old-school single "And You Know That," isn't it? That's her, though, getting her start on the legendary rap label Sugar Hill Records. Which might be why Moby selected Stone to sing alongside the biting rhymes of MC Lyte on his throwback track, "Jam for the Ladies." Our other Next Steps tell the rest of Stone's story, including her stint with steamy R&B trio Vertical Hold, a joyous, gospel-backed session with Macy Gray and Mos Def ("My Nutmeg Phantasy"), and a slew of dazzling solo songs (the straight-outta-Motown funk of "Groove Me," the spot-on Stevie Wonder cover "You Will Know").
