Angie Stone
Comment:
Angie Stone's entire two decade-plus career is best summed up by one song: "Love of My Life Worldwide," an estrogen-powered posse cut featuring a sample of the Sequence's hit 1979 single "Funk You Up." Aside from its obvious use in the Dr. Dre song "Keep Their Heads Ringin'," the original "Funk You Up" featured a very young Stone as one of its three rhyme-slingin' members. In other words, Erykah Badu's song reveals how far Stone's come over the years, from her start as an old-school rap pioneer to her role in the neo-soul movement of the late '90s. She isn't going anywhere anytime soon, either, as evidenced by the Top 20 debut of her latest album, The Art of Love & War. (It's her highest-charting debut yet, with 45,000 copies sold in the first week.)
