Comment:
Genius? Innovator? Eccentric? I'm honestly not sure. I do know that he's written great rock songs and some truly heartbreaking material. Thanks to Rob for his suggestions and thoughts. As far as recommended work goes, I suggest the recently reissued disc, "The Evil One" - whoa, is THIS where Dubya got his mantra? Somehow, I doubt it. "Allthat may do my rhyme" is also really good. "Never Say Goodbye" is beautiful and sad. "Casting the Runes" is a great live record and the "You're gonna miss me" best-of is a pretty good selection. Oh, and the first two Elevators' records are absolutely required listening in my Rock 'n' Roll 101 class. Too bad they sound like shit. Roky (recent resident of
Pittsburgh) sends his love - well, no, he didn't really, but I'm sure he would. Live stuff is with the Explosives and the bulk of the studio stuff features various incarnations of the Aliens.
Feedback:
This is truly great, Sean. You did Poppa proud. :-) I'll be posting my Roky mix when I finally get around to doing it this week. "I Love the Living You" is one of *the* most beautiful songs of all-time. And, to add to your comments, I'd recommend "Never Say Goodbye" and "All That May Do My Rhyme" as my first two picks.
A superior effort. No "I Have Always Been Here Before" though?
Brilliant, Sean. I always wanted a decent collection of Roky. This fits the bill prefectly. Up for a trade?
Killer collection Mr. Lally!
Great stuff, Sean.
Looks beautiful, i love the elevators, i'm with Gerry!
If you wanna trade just give me a call!
If you wanna trade just give me a call!
majestic work
Great mix. I was contemplating the options for Letter Ee in RSEv2.0 and this helped narrow my choices. Actually, I may let Roky resurface when I get to Tt.
Astounding! What a collection of tunes!
you don't even wanna know how ignorant i am of the roky-san. it's pathetic, actually. i'm more than positive that this would be a wonderful place to start, though.
No question Roky had (what he perceived as) his "third eye" open....the proof is in the music. Also, I'd recommend the tribute cd: "Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye"! Some outstanding remakes of what Roky was about....Primal Scream's "Slip Inside This House" and John Wesley Harding's "If You Have Ghosts" shouldn't be missed...also, I second the question from Hell. Great job with this one Sean!(One shudders to think "What if...")
I'd love to hear this, must've missed it before. I like the 13th floor elevators but haven't heard any thing by Roky except "Burn the Flames" from the Return of the Living Dead soundtrack.
