Comment:

She was born Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien. She became Dusty Springfield, a singer of rare elegance capable of explosive soul power, and a genuine Rock and Roll Hall of Fame icon. It was in the '60s that Springfield evolved from a bright-eyed songbird to a sophisticated pop chanteuse and the finest white soul singer of her generation. Our Dusty Springfield in the '60s Essentials features the best of her golden age, from the landmark run of Burt Bacharach/Hal David hits — including the irresistible "Wishin' and Hopin'" and the undeniable heartbreaker "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself" — to her redefining forays into Southern and Philly soul (such as "No Easy Way Down" and "Brand New Me") to her lesser-known yet still brilliant tracks (check out the finger-poppin' R&B groove "Doodlin'"). Tragically, Dusty died from cancer in 1999, well before her time, but she left behind a legacy that places her forever in the pop-music pantheon. She remains as essential as ever.
