Comment:

"Wham Bam, Thank You Ma'am" blasts out of the speakers with the raw bite of a gale-force wind, a hard-driving rave-up similar to what you might expect from the Yardbirds or the Spencer Davis Group, but with a brass-knuckle edge. Steve Marriott growls his way through "You Need Loving," a leather-jacketed British blues boogie that strayed out of a Chicago juke joint one night and woke up in London with a pint of Guinness in its hand. But "The Universal," which Marriott believed was among his best work, left the blues behind in favor of a Dylanesque freeform ramble complete with marching-band-style bass drum, barking dog, and clarinet. It tanked, and Marriott began casting about for new musical digs, and the Small Faces folded not long after.
