Comment:

The history of rock is littered with bands that looked good on paper (and onstage), sounded good on disc, and just never seemed to get the traction they deserved; Small Faces founder/guitarist Steve Marriott was their king. As the first wave of British Invaders tossed off their mod threads — and sounds — in favor of paisley and pharmaceuticals, the Small Faces managed to pack their musical satchels full of soul, pop, R&B, and psychedelic rock, staking out a territory somewhere between the spaciness of Pink Floyd and the earthiness of the Rolling Stones. With the exception of "Itchycoo Park," U.S. radio (and audiences) ignored them, and it wasn't until Marriott had left to form his next shoulda-been-bigger-than-they-were band, Humble Pie, that the newly christened Faces began to receive the attention they so deeply deserved. If you already know the Small Faces, you're well aware of the goodness we have in store for you here. If you don't, say hello to one of your new favorite bands.
