If "Shades" sounds like a lost Steely Dan track, it's for good reason: Donald Fagen composed it as a tribute to the Yellowjackets' ability to blend "shades" of electronic and acoustic sonic textures with R&B, jazz, and whatever musical inspiration seeped into their limo's interior as they toured the world. If you find yourself pulled irresistibly to the jazzier side of pop mavens the 'Dan, you'll be powerless to resist the caress of Marc Russo's sax on "Geneva" or guest Kurt Elling's perfect-for-your-next-crawfish-boil vocal take on "Up from New Orleans."
