Comment:
For the consistently stunning Ms. disobedience. The George Faith song should in all good conscience be credited to the amazing (and oft-revered) Lee "Scratch" Perry, as it's his production that makes it as great as it is. Thanks to p the swede for the studio version of "Wanted Man". All credit to Mr. Casetta for including that particular Robyn Hitchcock song on his "Eccentrics" mix way back when; although Tom is not technically responsible for my possession of the track (I have "You & Oblivion" on CD), listening to that tape inspired me to place it on this mix. The Michael Jackson track is a classic "guilty pleasure" of mine, as it was one of my favorite songs when I was 8 years old... but I honestly think it holds up, despite my loathing for the bulk of his catalog (I'll grant some leeway to the early 70's Jackson 5 singles, "Billie Jean" and to approximately half of the "Off the Wall" album). The title is from the soon-to-be-deemed classic Lou Barlow track.Feedback:
Looks really great and very diverse, Rob. I like your style.
mr eclecticism strikes again! Well done, Rob. I especially like the Kate Bush and Them pix. I plan to get guilty pleasure-ish myself soon enough, so don't feel bad. Life is about minimising pain and maximising pleasure!
To Be a Lover (Have Some Mercy)is wondeful song, this version is marvelous probarbly the one Billy Idol looked at when he did his (fine actually) cover, the original version on stax (can't remember right now who made it, Johnnie Taylor ?) is a another classic you "can't" miss. What's Cleaners from venus? Love that Stranglers track too, some day we gotta do a new trade
Very nice, Rob.
You put "Friends of mine" and that cursed Jackson song on the same mix - shame on you. Good to hear the Klaatu tune again. But that Jackson song - ugh. Double UGH.
Triple UGH. UGH UGH UGH!!!
I'll take Sean's four UGHs and raise him one UGH. But seriously, if I had to pick my favorite MJ song, it would be something a bit more upbeat, like Wanna Be Startin' Something or Black or White. Other than that, this is fine pop fare Mr. C.
Fine piece of work, Rob. We all have our guilty pleasures, so pay no mind to you buds Sean and Ion (not that you would, by the way!)
great mix, rob. i think it's great that you put that mj song on there, even if it never would've occurred to me personally. fun!
mmm...nick cavey goodness. another good one rob.
Y'know Rob, "Ben" is about a thousand times better than that awful MJ pap. Come one! "Ben, the two of us need look no more......" How does it go? Break out the MJ collection for your next single artist comp.
Doh! That should have read "Come on", but then you knew that.
If my MJ collection consisted of any more than a CDR of (the admittedly re-mastered) "Off the Wall", plus "I Want You Back" and "ABC", I'd happily do so just to spite you, my friend. :-)
Nifty little mix.
Great stuff Rob! (however, I can't even remember how She's Out of My Life goes now...). Looks like a really interesting collection of songs =)
Jackson 5 are ACE, so stop mess around
Very nice ! Klaatu - that's it !
