Comment:

If you were looking for a band capable of bridging the gap between the 11th century and the 21st, you've come to the right place. Clannad's music is almost otherworldly in the depths of its mossy mystic spell, piling layer upon layer of sound dense as the fog that hangs over its native County Donegal. Composed of three siblings and a pair of uncles (augmented briefly by sister Eithne, later — and better — known as Enya), the family business got its start in a pub owned by lead singer Maire Brennan's father. For most of the '70s, they stuck pretty close to traditional sounds favored by the likes of the Chieftains, but then they locked into a new age/ancient roots groove that would straddle the worlds of folk and pop, propel them into the international spotlight, and change the face of Irish music for all time.
