Comment:

Listen to the breathtaking backbeat of "You Never Talked About Me" or the sock-hop stroll of "The Answer to Everything," and it's easy to see how Del Shannon's way with turning a mere song into something more came to define the sounds of the early '60s. Crazy to think that some of his best was yet to come, like the 1981 stunner "Distant Ghost," produced by Tom Petty and backed by the Heartbreakers, or "Who Left Who?," a devastating dose of heartbreak waxed in 1990 — the year Shannon died by his own hand — and sung with a voice made of pure, staggering emotion.
