The late, great Del Shannon broke out just as music's most revolutionary decade, the '60s, was getting underway. He and his music hinted at the transformative times to come, with thrill-ride shifts from rough-edged rocker to falsetto-voiced teen idol, and bleak lyrical undertones anchoring otherwise bouncy pop numbers like the happy tale of romantic vengeance "Hats Off to Larry" and the runnin'-on-empty story-song "Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow the Sun)."
