Eliza Carthy
Comment:
She sings, she plays the fiddle, and she's a major reason English folk music retains such a vital and robust presence on the post-millennial musical landscape. Eliza Carthy may have had something of a head-start, considering that her parents are traditional folk legends Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, but her impact within the genre has exceeded the promise of her bloodline: we begin with "Worcester City" from 2003 Mercury Prize contender Anglicana. A couple of tracks from Carthy's solo debut can be found among our Next Steps.
