Comment:

You might recognize some of these titles from your favorite Van Morrison albums and setlists, but just like in the dictionary, “similar” is a long way from “same.” In "Goodbye Baby (Baby Goodbye)," the King of Rock and Soul, Solomon Burke, cries out for one last hallelujah from the infidelity choir before taking a permanent powder from the love pulpit. Meanwhile, in a cross-town revival tent, Bobby "Blue" Bland begs and shouts over jubilee horns, needle-in-the-red frantic in "Turn On Your Love Light," unlike the too-proud-to-plead Morrison, who'd just order his would-be squeeze to flip that switch. Speaking of flipping switches, Tommy Edwards throws a megawatt breaker, sending a surge of theatricality crackling into “It’s All In the Game,” smiling through the pain as he trots out the lover’s playbook for a one-performance-only, show-stopping spectacular. From Chet Baker to Frank Sinatra, from Sam Cooke to Muddy Waters, these are the artists who sang the songs Van couldn’t wait to make his own.
