After a faltering start in the mid-'90s (excellent debut album [i]One Mississippi[/i] inexplicably failed to catch fire), Michigan-born Brendan Benson has emerged in the 21st century as a master of hot-rockin' power pop, producing tunes that marry the joys of fresh bubblegum with the permanence of gob-stoppers. His breezy, nonchalant delivery only enhances the impression that he can produce great tunes as naturally as a magic goose drops golden eggs: go to work on a full-throttle fizzer like "Spit It Out" and you won't need an energy drink to see you though till the end of the day. "Tiny Spark" and "Good to Me" featured on the soundtrack to the TV series [i]Teachers[/i].
