Nils Lofgren
Comment:
Multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren learned the accordion aged five, joined Neil Young's band at 17 (that's him playing the ivories on After the Gold Rush), and, from 1984, settled in as a longtime member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street band . . . but here we salute his solo career, with an occasional nod to Grin — "Beggar's Day (Eulogy to Danny Whitten)" — the band he fronted before going solo in the mid-'70s. "Keith Don't Go (Ode to the Glimmer Twin)" is a hard-rockin' highlight from his 1975 self-titled debut. Lofgren pulls in classical strings, in Next Steps.
