Comment:

The ultimate independent-minded artist, Shelby Lynne has spent most of her career happily zigging at each music-biz zag. When the rest of Nashville was stocking up on headset microphones and practicing arena-rock moves, she was sporting a classy retro look and dipping into torch ballads and Western swing. In the post-O Brother Where Art Thou? era, when America was going bluegrass-crazy, she flipped the script and put on her modern-pop hat. She's collaborated with everyone from outlaw-country hero Willie Nelson to alt-rockers Live, and covered the great American songwriters from Buck Owens to Burt Bacharach. Most importantly, she's penned plenty of her own tunes that reach fearlessly into the deep well of human emotion, sometimes heartbreakingly confessional, sometimes gutsy and brash, but always following a map of her own making.
