The Blasters
Comment:
It's easy to focus on the Alvins — in fact, it's hard not to — but the other Blasters weren't just hitching a ride, musically speaking. When you hear the Crescent City second-line-inspired "Hollywood Bed," you'll understand why Black Flag's Henry Rollins called the band's original percussionist, Bill Bateman, "one of the best drummers there is." And on the rock-a-bluesy riffage of "Crazy Baby," John Bazz slaps the bass around like a rented mule. If you like your cornpone and sour mash with a couple of chunks of punk on the side, check out "Little Honey," its Cajun-style fiddle dripping heartbreak while Phil Alvin takes a hillbilly holiday from the rebel rumble of their harder-rockin' sides.
