I was too young to be involved in this scene, really. It was my aunt and her friends who were only eight years older than me that would put me onto the pirate radio stations in London & the South East. I’d record the shows and study the tracks relentlessly, even though I was only about 12.  There are styles that aren’t included here, but I was always bangin’  the more soulful side of the scene.  This is the music that the UK club scene was born from – weekenders, Ibiza, raves!  The records are mainly about grooves and melody with an edge. The vocal content usually lets them down, if you want to be cynical about it, but really it was all about the soul and the dance.
