El pasito duranguense has become one of the most popular forms of Latin music in the United States over the past decade. What's the appeal? People who have grown up around norteño styles from Mexico are drawn to the similar tempos and horn arrangements of duranguense, but the pulsating boom gives it an edge. The rhythms are much faster, the vocals much sweeter, the excitement is more evident, and those snare rolls sound like a herd of wild horses on the loose. The sound is taking over the Latin charts and quickly displacing reggaeton as the sound of new rebel youth. We've gathered together some of the best artists working in duranguense below.
