Don't let the mullet and the pop hits fool you, Jeff Healey could bust out blazing blues licks with the best of them, and his off-kilter approach to the guitar helped him tear tantalizing new holes in the six-string firmament. The measured pace of "Blue Jean Blues" leaves plenty of room for Healey to wring soul-scorching fireworks out of his axe, and his swooping riffs on "Third Degree" bring a low-down danger to Eddie Boyd's old hard-times tune. The fearless fret-master wasn't afraid to rewrite the sacred scrolls of blues, either: listen to him shoot a jolt of electricity through the Robert Johnson tradition on his storm-the-barricades live take of "Stop Breakin' Down."
