Comment:

Whether giving Clapton and Stevie Ray a run for their money while spraying out jagged shards of broken-bottle riffs, or turning on his lovelight to let loose with a romantic ballad, Jeff Healey radiated the kind of true-blue sincerity that can only be described as soul. His lifelong health struggles eventually took him out of the game way too early, but they gave him a deep feeling for the blues. You can hear it in the hard-won wisdom he brought to his guitar solos, dripping with a bittersweet mix of pain and desire one minute, pile-driving rock energy into a blues foundation the next. You can hear it in his natural-born belter's rough-and-ready swagger and in his sweet, soul-baring delivery on openhearted declarations from deep inside. Listen close, but don't be afraid to turn it up.
