Conceived as something of a hoax in the late-'80s by keyboard and guitar prodigy Steven Wilson – mainly to showcase his talent and affection for experimental rock – Porcupine Tree gradually took on a life of its own, and stands proud as one of the sharpest, most inventive rock outfits of the 21st Century, drawing comparisons to Yes and Pink Floyd while forging ahead in bold, fresh directions.
