Comment:

The sweat-soaked sound of War's steamy, swirling funk/jazz/Latin gumbo evoked rump-shakin' rainbow visions that made for ideal soundtrack music. Their funk-faced theme from the obscure 1978 film Youngblood is, today, much better remembered than its cinematic source. Dripping with a pass-the-bottle, street-party vibe, "Nappy Head (Theme From Ghetto Man)" was, in fact, the soundtrack to a non-existent movie — but it's vivid enough for a real one. Though "The Jungle" has no silver-screen connection, its P-Funk-influenced synthesizer squiggles, chant-along group-vocal refrain, and thumb-poppin' bass backdrop a dramatic ghetto-life story in three deep-groove dimensions.
