Comment:

It's one of the great ironies of pop music history that the group who originally came together to play behind a '60s British rock star found fame in the '70s as America's greatest musical jugglers of ethnic styles. They were capable of pumping out fat-bottomed funk grooves, swiveling the hips of the nation with Latin-percussion syncopation, dropping deep reggae rhythms, or spinning out tasty jazz-fusion licks, all behind positive, socially aware lyrical messages. And you can hear all the highlights of their hit-packed catalog right here. A true Los Angeles institution, War has been officially recognized by Los Angeles for their contributions to the community, but it's the sunshine-splashed tunes they've given to the world that will be the group's most enduring legacy.
