Comment:

31) She's the One 32) I Want You Around 33) Rock and Roll High School. Perhaps this is bad timing, what with Dee Dee's regrettable but predictable passing this past week, but I've been thinking of putting this disc together for a long time. Nothing revolutionary here at all, just a collection of my favorite Ramones songs, all of which date from the first four albums (crazy, ain't I?). Rocket to Russia (my favorite record of theirs) and the debut are featured almost in their entirety. I'll admit that I'm not the world's hugest Ramones fan--I like them quite a bit, but now that I've done this mix it's fair to say that I could effectively trade their records... And yes, you're right: "I Wanna Be Sedated" (which is just fine but *never* needs to be played in my vicinity ever again) is not on this mix. For all of my friends and fellow record geeks out there, here's a question: What's your favorite Ramones tune? Bizarrely enough, I think mine is "Questioningly" (whose lyrics provide the parenthetical portion of this mix's title), with nods to "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow", "We're a Happy Family", "I Want You Around", "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", "Rockaway Beach" and "Babysitter" (can you tell which type of Ramones song appeals more to me?) for good measure.

rocket to russia is also my fav or the ramones albums, but i love "Judy is a punk" with the line "second verse same as the first" and the lyrics to "I don't wanna walk around with you" is also great but i think my all time top song with ramones is Rockaway beach or.....

Cool mix. I think my favorite is their cover of Tom Waits' "I Don't Wanna Grow Up".

I think you lean towards Joey's pop sensibilities, Rob & that ain't a bad thing. Personally, I dig Johnny's chainsaw guitar attack. Used to plug into the back of the stereo & grind along. Fave picks - all of Rocket to Russia.

i remember listening to the ramones once, and once alone. i'm not sure whose album it was, but i was much to hungover and almost asleep to appreciate it. i however, did read this large-ish article on them in some magazine after joey (was it joey) died, and they sounded pretty interesting...maybe i better try them again.

The greatest punk band of all time. I saw them twice. In 1980 and then 1990. They were tremendous fun both times. You're right Rob, The first four are the best without doubt, although they had lots of later moments of brilliance. Too tough to die is a great album. My favourite track is Blitzkreig Bop from the first album, which incidentally cost ú6,000 to record. Is that true about Dee Dee? I didn't know this. How sad. Lots of my heroes seem to be dropping like flies these days.

Rockaway Beach is my fave, though I find The KKK Took My Baby Away perversely funny! There's nothing on here I'd want to leave off for Sedated, though I'm not sick of it either.

Nice job. My favorite Ramones songs are easily "Howling At The Moon" and "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" (a song I bet President Reagan could even like).

Outstanding mix Rob..! (My wife e-mailed the announcement of Dee Dee's demise)...fav' tune? Depends, but "Cretin Hop", "Rockaway Beach" and "She's a Sensation" would vie....my wife got to see 'em in '80, (not sure she was prepared for THAT show.)

Excellent Rob. Hard to pick a favorite, but Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment and Judy Is a Punk (with the Who-like background vocals) would rank near the top.

Hey Rob, is there some kind of subscription service I could join to receive all your mixes in the mail? What a treat that would be.

To answer your question, it would be anything off their first, still my favorite. I bought it in '77 after reading a rave review by Lester Bangs in Circus!! I'll pick, "I Don't Wanna Go Down To the Basement". I sing it all the time.

great great comp, rob. just when i think i'm able to narrow down my favorite song list, i spy something on your tracklist here that sends me back to the drawing board. i can't imagine not owning rocket to russia, though.

Wow, I love your blurb and concur whole-heartedly. It's the first four albums that do it for me...I don't have much interest in anything past that. As for my favorite Ramones tune...I've always been partial to "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue," for some reason...though "Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World" is also up there (basically anything off the first record).
