Maria McKee and Lone Justice came riding in from the West to save the day with their twangy Telecasters blasting and their Americana soul bared — a cool, fresh wind sweeping away the era's contrived, artificial pop products. Even though they didn't generate enough commercial steam to survive long, the band fired a resounding cannon blast of rootsy musical richness, proving country and soul's old-school values still had a place in the brave new world. On her own, McKee has furthered that cause, painting with a wider palette of colors, but never abandoning her grounding in the home truths of American music.
