The Smithereens' hits may have been powered by hard-charging, industrial-sized guitar riffs, but you can hear a '60s-obsessed British Invasion heart pumping at the center of it all. Merseybeat meets Jerseybeat when Carteret, NJ's favorite sons tear off a perfect, note-for-note Fab Four tribute on "I Saw Her Standing There." Their debut EP's title track throws some herky-jerky new wave moves onto a mop-top-pop template for a fun-loving Knack-meets-Dave Clark 5 feel. "Crazy Mixed-Up Kid" flips even further back in the band's rock history handbook for a rockabilly romp that still bears a bit of that Brit influence.
